Teeth Whitening Products

Products on the market make whitening your teeth at home or in your dentist’s office easy and affordable. With so many options, it can be hard to determine what is best for you and your teeth. In-office whitening is a bit more expensive but it also gives immediate results. Over the counter products do give immediate results but they are not as dramatic and will require more than one application to see the change you want. With any teeth whitening valparaiso in treatment, you may experience some temporary sensitivity but it should subside in a day or two.

In-Office Whitening

While in-office whitening is the more costly option, your results are immediate. The whitening solution is painted onto each tooth to be whitened and an ultraviolet light is set to activate the solution. A protective coating is applied to keep your gums safe from the whitening. The process takes between an hour and an hour and a half, depending on the shade you want to achieve. Some people fall asleep while having their teeth whitened and others listen to a podcast. It is challenging to read or use your phone since you will be lying back with your mouth retracted open!

Whitening Strips and Trays

Both whitening strips and whitening trays have the peroxide whitening solution already applied so they are an easy way to quickly whiten your teeth. Immediate results are not as intense as in-office whitening but strips and trays can be used at your leisure. For 30 minutes per day for up to two weeks, you can wear the strips or trays and once you are satisfied with your results, simply stop your treatment.

Whitening Toothpaste, Mouthwash and Chewing Gum

Switching to a toothpaste with baking soda can help whiten your teeth if you do not have a lot of staining. It also helps keep newly whitened teeth bright! A mouthwash with peroxide will also help remove staining.

Chewing a sugarless, whitening gum after meals can help remove food particles from your teeth that can cause staining and coat the teeth to prevent it!

It is important to see your dentist regularly and to consult them before using any whitening products. You may not be a candidate for whitening and will not know that on your own. Tetracycline teeth do not respond to over the counter whitening products but there are in office products that have proven successful. Your dentist will be able to tell you what products will and will not work for you.

It is also beneficial to have your teeth professionally cleaned before beginning any whitening treatments. After whitening, try to stay away from foods and drinks that stain the teeth as well as tobacco products for at least 48 to 72 hours.

Whitening is an easy way to freshen your smile. Speak to your dentist to see if whitening is a good choice for you!
