Restore Your Teeth With White Fillings
Dental fillings are a way to restore teeth that have been cracked, fractured, broken or decayed. Teeth with untreated cavities can cause serious damage to your oral health and the bacteria can create systemic issues throughout your body. Dental fillings are used to restore your tooth to the original shape before being damaged from a cavity, chip, fracture or trauma. Composite (white fillings), amalgams (silver fillings), gold and porcelain are several materials that are used for restoring your tooth.
Composite fillings, also known as a resin, are the most popular filling material and the recommended choice in our office. It is a tooth-colored material composed of a mixture of plastic and glass and can be matched to the color of your tooth. A resin is commonly used to restore small to medium size cavities for your posterior teeth and used to restore your anterior teeth with minor cavities or with small chips or fractures.
Composite fillings come in a variety of colors and are layered onto your tooth to match seamlessly with your natural tooth color. The resin bonds strongly to the tooth provided there is sufficient tooth structure to support the resin. Composites will discolor over time and can withstand moderate chewing pressure. Weakened teeth may need to be restored with a dental crown or porcelain veneer instead of a composite filling. The lifespan of a composite filling is unique for every situation.

The Dental Filling Process
The steps for performing a dental filling are incredibly easy. At your scheduled appointment we will review the treatment and gently the numb the needed area with a local anesthetic to ensure you feel no pain during the procedure. Once you are completely numb, Dr. Drone will remove the decay or re-contoured the fractured tooth. We will apply the composite in layers and between each layer a specialized lights is used to harden the resin. After the tooth is restored to the natural shape we will polish and evaluate your bite.
