The Ideal Solution for Replacing Damaged or Decayed Teeth
A healthy smile and a stable bite play a significant role in how an individual can look and feel. Anyone missing one or more teeth understands how tooth loss can affect your self-confidence when smiling and can be uncomfortable when eating in public. You may even avoid social situations. Tooth loss can impact your daily life. When a tooth is lost people see changes in their appearance, ability to chew normally, deterioration of their jaw bone, and experience an overall decline in their health. Dental implants can change your life and are the most advanced options today to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or all of your teeth. Implants can also be used in assisting maxillofacial prostheses like an ear, nose, or eye.
Dental implants are made of titanium or zirconia, are biocompatible, and are well tolerated by our bodies. This form of tooth replacement stands to offer one of the most sturdy and natural-looking dental solutions. Implants are a well scientific proven solution for over 50 years, dating back to the mid-1960’s and are the new standard of care for tooth replacement.

What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the new standard of care for tooth replacement. A dental implant is a small titanium or ceramic (zirconia) post that bonds with healthy bone and acts as an artificial tooth root. It is firmly anchored into the jaw bone and provides a secure foundation to attach the natural-looking porcelain crown, bridge, or denture. Dental implants look, feel, and function like real teeth and will restore your confidence to speak, eat and smile. A dental implant can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth or all missing teeth.
The Dental Implant Procedure
Most dental implant procedures can usually be performed with local anesthetic in the dental office. Patients tolerate this procedure very well and the procedure can be compared to a patient having a routine filling placed in the dental office. We have a team approach for treatment planning for dental implants. Our team is composed of a prosthodontist, an oral surgeon or periodontist, and our laboratory technicians. Oral surgeons and Periodontists are dental specialists that have advanced specialty training in removing teeth, bone grafting, gum tissue grafting, and placement of dental implants. Dr. Drone is a prosthodontist and with advanced specialty training in designing and planning the following dental treatment options: smile designs, designing crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures, and dental implants and works closely with our dental laboratory technicians in designing a surgical guide used to place the implant in the exact location needed for an ideal outcome.
Dental Implants Consist of 3 Parts
- The Titanium Post: this is the prosthetic device that acts as an artificial tooth root and is placed into the jaw bone to provide a secure foundation for the next two pieces.
- The Abutment: This is the “middle” piece that sits on top of the titanium post and underneath the actual crown. It can be called a coupler as well and can be made of titanium, gold, or zirconia.
- The Replacement Tooth: This is the piece that will be securely connected to the abutment. The replacement tooth can be a crown, bridge, or denture.

The Benefits of Dental Implants
There are many benefits to having dental implants and are specific to each patient, but three main benefits for all patients are improvement in eating, speaking, and smiling with confidence. Some of the more specific benefits for dental implants are as follows:
- Dental implants prevent jaw bone deterioration. When a tooth is lost, the jawbone begins to shrink from lack of stimulation and becomes brittle. A dental implant mimics the normal function of a tooth. It causes stimulation to the jawbone and the bone bonds to the implant. This feature prevents bone loss and premature aging.
- Dental implants look, feel and function like natural teeth and have the highest success rate of any dental restoration.
- Dental implants are resistant to bacteria that cause decay and periodontal disease.
- Dental implants can eliminate the sticky denture adhesives for those patients with dentures and removable partial dentures.
- Dental implants can restore proper chewing ability up to 100%, allowing a better diet, improved health and quality of life.
- Dental implants can be a lifetime solution.
