Your smile is a key component in how others view you. In fact, your smile is quite often the very first thing that others notice. The first impressions you leave are based significantly on the quality of your smile before you even have the chance to utter a single word. A major part of your smile is the appearance of your teeth. Even small imperfections in your visible teeth can significantly impact the overall quality of your smile, and the impressions you make. At Drone Prosthodontics, we can restore the appearance of teeth affected by minor issues, enhancing the beauty of your smile, with dental bonding.

Have Minor Issues Impacted Your Smile?

There are several different minor issues that can have a significant impact on the appearance of your smile. These issues include
•  Small chips or cracks in your tooth enamel.
•  Spaces between your teeth.
•  Teeth that are small or oddly shaped.
•  Discoloration that has not responded to whitening.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a non-invasive treatment designed to restore the appearance of teeth affected by minor issues, enhancing the quality of your smile and giving you back your confidence. Dental bonding uses a material called composite resin to achieve these goals. Composite resin is a versatile material that can be shaped and molded to meet a wide variety of different needs. It is made up of a mixture of fine glass, plastic, and other materials, and matches the color of your natural teeth, which means that it blends in perfectly with the rest of your natural tooth structure.

How is Dental Bonding Done?

The process for getting dental bonding is non-invasive and quick to complete. We do not need to alter any part of your natural tooth structure nor do you need any type of anesthetic. The whole procedure takes less than an hour to complete. In many cases, treatment can take less than 30 minutes.

We begin bonding by cleaning your teeth. Next, an acid etch is applied to the areas to be treated. This acid etch a rough texture on your tooth enamel that helps the composite resin to more effectively bond. The acid is then washed off and your teeth dried. The composite resin is applied to your teeth and shaped as needed to achieve the desired effect. Once you are satisfied with your smile, a special light is used to cure, or dry, the composite resin and we finish your treatment by polishing the composite resin smooth.

Caring for Your Dental Bonding

While bonding is an effective treatment for restoring and enhancing your smile, it does the material can be damaged by biting or chewing on anything exceptionally hard. It is also porous and can stain along with your natural tooth enamel. Unlike your natural enamel, however, bonding cannot be whitened and will need to be replaced if you have your teeth whitened. If your bonding does become damaged, we can replace it. In addition to avoiding biting on anything too hard, it is important to continue to brush and floss your teeth as normal and have regular dental cleanings and exams.
