What is a dental crown?

Dental Crowns Valparaiso, INOne of the most effective and aesthetic restorative dental options is a dental crown. If one or more of your teeth have become worn, chipped, been affected by decay or trauma, or have an unattractive appearance, a dental crown may be an option for your oral health. A dental crown completely caps or encircles the entire tooth, from the biting surface down to the gums, and protects against future damage to the tooth. Our crowns are custom designed from the finest materials and laboratories to ensure longevity, function and aesthetic outcomes. A crown can be made of gold, metal, porcelain fused to gold, and all ceramic. A crown can greatly alter and improve your mouth's cosmetic appearance and function. Prosthodontists are experts in the design and aesthetics of dental crowns and Michael Drone, DDS's extensive knowledge allows him to carefully select the best material for each tooth. Michael Drone Dentistry & Prosthodontics is recognized as a leader in restorative dentistry and provides many dental solutions for your oral health and to improve the appearance of your teeth.

Benefits of a Dental Crown:

•  Can protect weakened, cracked, decayed or worn teeth
•  Can greatly alter and improve your cosmetic appearance when the existing tooth is severely discolored
•  Is virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth
•  Resists staining, unlike bonding or fillings
•  Can be used to close gaps, or to change the contour of misaligned teeth
•  Is an excellent dental solution to restore an unstable bite
•  Can provide a long lasting outcome with proper oral hygiene care
•  Is safe and is designed from biocompatible materials
•  Improves the function and strength of your teeth
•  Can ultimately help you look and feel healthier, live better, and increase your self-confidence

Dental Crown Procedure

At your first appointment your tooth will be slightly contoured to allow room for the dental crown. A digital impression of your tooth is made which we will use to design and fabricate your crown. A provisional plastic crown is provided to cover the tooth while the crown is being fabricated. The dental laboratory crown specialists along with Michael Drone, DDS will custom design your crown to blend flawlessly with your surrounding teeth. This will take 2 to 3 weeks. All of the dental crowns are hand crafted in the USA in our selected elite laboratories. We pride ourselves on working with these dental labs to ensure superior results with all our dental prosthetics. We will evaluate the color, contour, shape, fit and your bite before the crown is secured to the tooth with dental cement.
