How to Best Prevent Denture Sores

Posted on 10/10/2018 by Dr. Michael Drone
How to Best Prevent Denture SoresUsing dentures can aid in you being able to eat and enjoy all the foods you did when you had your natural teeth. Still, while dentures are highly useful, they do come with some downsides, such as denture sores.

Denture sores can be painful, and can linger on far longer than you would expect. As such, sometimes the best way to treat them is to prevent them from developing in the first place. Here are a few things you can do to help prevent the formation of denture sores. Follow these steps, and watch denture sores fade away.

Make Sure Your Dentures Fit Well

One of the leading causes of denture sores are dentures that do not fit correctly. An improperly-sized set of dentures can slide around on your gum tissue, causing irritation and greatly increasing the chances of denture sores.

The best way to avoid improperly fitting dentures is to be sure they are fashioned correctly in the first place. After you have them made, it is a good idea to have us take a close look at them from time to time in order to be sure that they are still a good fit.

Even dentures that are perfectly matched to your gums can cause sores, but you can help reduce the chances of this by using a good denture adhesive to help hold them in place. Make sure you are using the adhesive that we recommend most.

Be Sure to Soak the Dentures at Night

Dentures are fashioned with a soft area where they fit against your gum tissue. To keep this material pliable and soft, remember to keep your dentures moist. At night, after you remove them and clean them, they should be stored in clean water or a solution designed for this purpose.

Of course, these are only a few ideas. Take some time to read up on the topic, and you'll find that wearing dentures is a more comfortable experience.
