Having a Dental Crown InstalledThe installation procedure for a dental crown usually involves at least two visits to your dental care provider. The first time you come see us, we will take a look at the tooth to be sure that there is enough healthy tooth material to support a crown.
If so, we will also shape the tooth to prepare it to receive the dental crown. Before you leave, we will attach a temporary crown to help protect the tooth until you come back for your permanent dental crown.
On your second visit we will attach the dental crown to your shaped tooth. We use a specially formulated dental adhesive to adhere the crown to your tooth. By the time the anesthesia wears off, your new crown will be ready for use.
Keep in mind that it may take you a little bit of time to get used to the new crown. You are used to your tooth feeling and functioning a certain way, now you have to get used to it feeling and functioning differently. Over time, as you get used to it, the crown will eventually feel, look, and operate just like a normal tooth.
