Dentures Must Be Removed and CleanedYou would never imagine caring for an adult with natural teeth and yet never cleaning those teeth, would you? On the same token, when caring for an adult who has dentures, you must clean the dentures just as meticulously and thoroughly as you would clean your charge's natural teeth.
Because dentures may be removed, it is a little bit easier to clean them than to clean natural teeth. You can remove them from your charge and use a good quality toothbrush to brush them. You can use regular toothpaste, or you can use toothpaste that has been specially formulated to address the needs of adults with dentures.
Dentures Cannot Be Allowed to Dry OutWhatever you do, do not take out your charge's dentures and just sit them on the table. If they dry out they can be extremely uncomfortable to wear. Instead of setting them out, if they are not in use you should keep them wet by immersing them in clean water or even a denture soaking solution.
Taking care of an adult who wears dentures can be a challenge, but if you keep in mind the basic elements of denture care you should be able to develop a routine that lets you keep on top of things. If you need more information, please contact us at any time!
